Are Hawks '20-'21 Playoff Expectations Realistic?

The NBA will resume their season with 22 tournament teams on July 31 down in Orlando, Florida.

The Atlanta Hawks are not among those teams. Instead, they'll be looking for alternatives to try and prepare for the next season.

However, the 2021 season will be shorter with a start date in December. It's a quick turnaround for the tournament teams but an extended period of off-time for the Hawks.

Back in March, Hawks head coach Lloyd Pierce said his team would make the playoffs. With the delay, with the gap, with the fact that they're not going to Orlando, does that change his expectation to make the postseason next year?

"No, it doesn't change it," Pierce told Andy and Randy. "It makes it creatively different for us to move forward and progress."

"We have a mindset and we have a capability and we have an opportunity to make a tremendous jump next year...Naturally, what everybody wants is to make that jump and be a competitor in the playoffs and take it from there. We're not skipping steps, but we want to make that jump that we think is necessary right now. We just have to be creative in how we get there with everything that's happened."
