Atlanta Braves Legend Dale Murphy joined Dukes & Bell for his weekly segment and talked about Austin Riley’s much anticipated debut tonight at Sun Trust park.

Dale told the guys there would be a transition for Riley to the majors.

“There’s gonna be a transition, GM’s are always calling the minor league managers and asking if guys are ready.” Murphy said “I saw him play in A ball a few years ago and he hit one over the scoreboard, he’s had power he’s got good hands, he’s a big kid and it looks like he’s coming into his own. There are somethings easier to hit in the big leagues, but what you run into in the big leagues is pitchers have better control, you’re going to see him go thru some adjustments. If you can play third base you can play anywhere, he’s a great athlete, I’m excited, but a pitcher always has an advantage if you haven’t seen him.”

Murphy said it’s important for Riley to stay aggressive at the plate.

“What I would tell him is stay aggressive.” Murphy said “Don’t give these guys too much credit just because they’re in the big leagues, what you’re going to see is defense is better so when you hit balls hard they’re going to run them down. As far as getting pitches to hit, you have to carry that confidence, maintain your aggressiveness, just go out there and go for it.”

When asked if Riley will fit into the locker room.

“This is a good kid, he’ll fit in seamlessly.” Murphy said “This makes your lineup deeper, a guy like him hitting sixth a power and RBI guy, that’s what you want is a lineup that is tough all the way thru.”
