Jeff Schultz, Senior Writer for The Athletic in Atlanta, joined The Morning Show with John and Hugh Wednesday to talk about the ongoing contract situation between Julio Jones and the Atlanta Falcons.

According to reports, Jones will not report for the start of training camp on Thursday because he wants his contract reworked. The team informed Jones last week that they won't restructure his deal this season.

When asked if it’s about restructuring or efforts to get new money, Schultz feels the Falcons would slide a lot of money at the front of a new deal next year, because there’s no guarantee Jones would extend his career down the road.

"If [Jones] is not in by the second preseason game or just after, I think it's a problem," said Schultz. "I would venture to say right now, assuming he's not there Thursday, that he will miss some time but he'll be in shortly after."

While Schultz believes Jones is trying to make a statement with this holdout, he also thinks the All-Pro receiver wants to get out of the game early and may only play a couple of additional seasons.

"Even though he hasn't said this, I don't think Julio wants to play that much longer," said Schultz. "I think he has a little bit of Calvin Johnson in him in that he loves football but I don't think he wants to do it forever."

The Falcons are still player-for-player a great football team with a stacked roster heading into the 2018 season. Is this a Super Bowl-winning team without Julio?

“Without Julio, no." He added: "He's a difference maker. With Julio I think they can win the Super Bowl. Without him, I would have to see it."
