Rick and John talked Wednesday on The Midday Show about Atlanta Falcons defensive end Takk McKinley and the situation he finds himself in out in Los Angeles after being detained for a mental evaluation.

Rick told John he is concerned about McKinley because it’s a mental illness that really can’t be defined like a regular physical injury, but believes he will be ready week one of 2019. John applauded McKinley's friend who took it upon himself to reach and get help for McKinley because he knew something was really wrong.

John isn’t sure it’s our business to know what happened with McKinley in the hotel room, but hopes he gets help. Rick mentioned other ball players with mental illness including Royce White who was drafted in the NBA but had a fear of flying. Ron Artest also had a choppy career in the NBA due to mental issues. Everson Griffin for the Vikings sat out a few games in 2018 due to mental illness, but wasn’t really the same guy when he came back. John said you don’t know where the issue comes from and it could be a personal issue or a football issue. Rick gave McKinley praise for going with the flow and understanding that something was wrong and he actually needed help and he took it.
