Report: Falcons, Jones closing in on mega deal

March 22, 2019 - 11:31 am

According to Mike Freeman of Bleacher Report, the Atlanta Falcons and wide receiver Julio Jones are getting close to a new deal.

My understanding is the Falcons and Jones are closing in on a deal that would pay him $20 million a year over a four- or five-year contract extension. He would get anywhere from $50 million to $60 million in new guarantees, one source told me.

According to Spotrac, Jones has the seventh highest contract among NFL receivers based on total contract value:

  1. Odell Beckham Jr. (five-year, $90 million)
  2. Mike Evans (five-year, $82.5 million)
  3. DeAndre Hopkins (five-year, $81 million)
  4. Brandin Cooks (five-year, $81 million)
  5. Jarvis Landry (five-year, $75.5 million)
  6. Stefon Diggs (five-year, $72 million)
  7. Julio Jones (five-year, $71.3 million)

Neither the Falcons nor Jones himself have announced any news or verified details of the negotiations.
