CEO of our Atlanta Hawks, Steve Koonin, joined Dukes and Bell. The guys asked Steve about the Jeremy Lin trade and he told them “Well, I don’t think one has anything to do with the market value of another, what we’re trying to do is require assets with value to help us build a team.”

The guys asked Steve what he thinks about NBA Summer League, and he said “I was in Vegas and I will tell you this summer league has become a really big deal, but about 70% of the guys in the summer league won’t play in the NBA. Trae Young’s last game was in mid-march and they don’t practice five on five, so we knew it would take him a little bit of time to get going.”

When talking about Trae Young's performance at Summer League, Koonin told the guys “Trae Young is going to bring a lot of attention to Atlanta he is a polarizing figure, we made a bold move that’s going to pay dividends but not instant dividends. When he’s feeling it he was hitting shots from 37 feet, but it’s not the same competition that you will see in the fall, we brought in Trey because he makes other players better.”

Mike asked Steve if the team will buyout Dennis Schroeder, Steve told them “I think the answer is no, there is no evidence out there that they can’t play on the floor at the same time because we haven’t seen them out there together yet.”
