Atlanta Hawks head coach Lloyd Pierce joined The Midday Show with Rick and John Friday for his weekly interview.

They jumped right into the state of the team with Kevin Herder and how Coach wanted him to be more selfish on the court. Its paying off because Herder is listening to the coaching staff. Coach Pierce told us the team defended at a higher level in their recent games and that has led to wins.

Pierce told us that the guys on the team do have shooting contests, but Vince Carter is the man coming out on top during these competitions. Coach Pierce described the activity by John Collins around the basket and how he has been able to make plays of pick and rolls and help his own production of rebounds. Coach Pierce admitted he hears chatter from around the league about the Hawks roster and saying they have guys who will play in the league for a long time.

Coach offers some player updates that includes leaving Taurean Prince home on this trip. Prince has been productive in his rehab and that’s why they left him at home so he could continue that.

Coach Pierce told us his advice for Trae Young against other point guards is to create space and make the other guy move and have to him move through screens off their bigs.
