With the trade deadline over and the upcoming All-Star Weekend approaching, Hawks general manager Travis Schlenk visited with John and Hugh for his weekly Tuesday segment and filled the guys in on the latest goings on with the franchise.

While the team made a couple of minor deals, Schlenk was involved with helping veteran guard Jeremy Lin with a buyout of his contract, which will allow Lin to sign over the next few days with the Toronto Raptors.

“Not a lot happened in my world over the past seven days, we were able to make a couple of minor deals,” he said, “and yesterday (Monday), Jeremy (Lin’s) agent asked if we could help him get to out of his contract.  And he’ll sign with Toronto in a couple of days, we were happy to help him try to get a ring.”

Schlenk credited Lin’s time in Atlanta and said that the assistance he provided to rookie Trae Young was invaluable.

“Jeremy was a big positive for Trae.  He was able to help with the microscope Trae was under.  He shared his experiences with our young group to help show the picture of where we going.  Now he has a chance to play for a championship hopefully.”

In regards to the team’s recent struggles, while he doesn’t think it had to do with the trade deadline, he wondered if some were worried about trade rumors, but he also pointed to some having played more game than ever before and with some, “they are looking forward to that break and getting some much-needed time off.”

The Hawks will end their pre-All-Star break with games against the Lakers (Tuesday) and Knicks (Thursday) before taking the league-mandated week off.
