Atlanta Hawks point guard Trae Young finished second to Luka Doncic Monday night in the NBA Rookie of the Year voting.

While Doncic winning the award wasn't a surprise, most would argue they didn't expect the voting to be as lopsided as it was. Jon Chuckery and Hugh Douglas attempt to explain what the national media was thinking with those results.

"Trae came on strong toward the middle of the season, but when you think about most writers in the NBA, they're not focused on the Atlanta Hawks. From a national perspective, Luka Doncic hit the ground running and there was no drop off," Hugh said. "Trae came on strong after the All Star Game"

"I think there was a perception going in to the season that Luka was more skilled and polished player and a lot of people thought he was the most complete player going in to the draft," says Chuckery. "The media took their preconceived ideas and allowed that to carry all the way through the season"
