Atlanta United’s Julian Gressel joined Dukes & Bell and talked about taking the cup to the “That was a moment I did after the Eastern Conference final as well, after I lifted the MLS cup on stage everyone said lets do a lap so I just straight over to the supporters section.”

When asked if he had taken it all in yet “I really haven’t, I’ve been really busy with a lot of wedding stuff I’ve pushed off until after the MLS cup, it’s been tough to really sit down and grasp it all, I think like that takes time to take it all in.”

Julian told the guys what the game plan was going in against Portland on Saturday “The way we wanted to play we were expecting them to let us play in the back, wouldn’t press us hard but be tight in the middle, so we knew we wanted to play wide and go side to side with a lot of crosses in the box, just to question their back line and I think we did that. A big part of our game plan was to stop them on their counter, and our first ball came from that we lost the ball Parkey stepped up tackled the ball from almost thirty yards out and we get the goal on it, so I think we executed it really well.”

Gressel talked about how important the Toronto loss was for the postseason run “Everything happens for a reason, and I’m not sure if we win the cup if we hadn’t lost that game to Toronto, I really think that made a difference for us, I’m a real believer in everything happens for a reason.”

Julian described what he did the night of the cup win “We had a little celebration at the stadium, then went home and changed and the club had organized a little get together at a club, so I think I went to bed at around 6:30 in the morning, even if I had went home to go to bed I don’t think I would have been able to go to sleep.”
