Julian Gressel joined Dukes & Bell on Tuesday to talk about the huge win over the New York Red Bulls on Sunday and to talk about how the regular season ended for Atlanta United.

“When they pressed us higher up the field in New Jersey they had a lot of success," said Gressel on Red Bulls' tactics. "When they set back a little bit they still won the game at home, we were thinking they were going to go as high as they can and press us but they didn’t and just took what the game gave us.”

Gressel talked about the versatility he brings to the field.

“It’s the life I have," said Gressel. "I’ve always been a pretty versatile player that can play multiple positions. Tata see’s it that way, and it makes me proud that he trusts me to do that. So, I just take the assignments the coaching staff gives me.”

Gressel talked about the consistency he has played with this season.

“You just want to get better as a player," said Gressel. "I’ve consistently played better than I did last year. I had a lot of ups and downs last year and this year I’ve show my quality as a player on a more consistent level.”

When asked what has changed for the team since the playoffs started...

“I would say the Toronto game was an eye-opener," Gressel said. "We came back, had a pretty long meeting. Some of the players spoke about what the playoffs would be like, and you saw that in the first game in New York. We came out gritty and we’ve came with that approach ever since.”

Gressel continued on the team’s mentality.

“Our mentality in the playoffs is go out there compete, win 50-50 balls, win secondary balls dominate in that way and be lockdown on defense," said Gressel. "One quick goal for them might lift them up. But if we score a goal it might put them away. We have to be aware of all scenarios.”

Gressel talked to the guys about the atmosphere at Mercedes-Benz on Sunday.

“It was a lot of fun," said Gressel. "It puts a smile on my face thinking back on it. It was incredible, it’s everything you want as a player, it takes away my words. No words to describe the crowd, I hope we can get one more home game.”
