Atlanta United VP and Technical Director Carlos Bocanegra joined John and Hugh on Friday to get an update on Josef Martinez and the rest of the team.

While the team is on a bit of a break, Carlos said he’ll be enjoying the World Cup. With the United States not being in the Cup this year, who is Carlos rooting for? While he doesn’t say they’ll be the team to beat, he says: “Nobody is talking about England right now, that if they put it together, they have a shot.”

North America was awarded the 2026 World Cup. In their bid video for the World Cup, Atlanta United and their fans were featured in a part of it.

“For us to be featured, and the support the city has shown [Atlanta United], it was a great, great message to send to FIFA. These next eight years are going to be fun for soccer fans and the city of Atlanta. It’s a great time for the sport. We have the best stadium in the world right now so the talk is for a Semi-Final match here.”

Meanwhile, the big question Atlanta United fans have is the status of Josef Martinez. Martinez was injured while delivering a header to give Atlanta their first goal against Columbus on Wednesday.

“He has a small fracture in his nose that won’t require surgery. He could play as early as Wednesday but that may be pushing it.
