Atlanta Braves Fox Sports Southeast announcer Chip Caray joined John and Hugh to talk about the second half of the Braves season.

The Braves sit 1 1/2 games out of first place in the NL East, behind the Philadelphia Phillies. When asked if the Braves are currently built for a postseason run, Caray believes anything is possible.

“It’s like hockey, if you get a hot goaltender you can go far,” as he compared baseball’s postseason to hockey. “And as presently constructed, I think they can contend for a playoff spot. While I think the results of the last six to seven weeks haven’t gone as well as we expected, we have full faith they can get it done.”

While he feels the evaluation of the farm system could be different from the previous regime, Caray has full confidence in Braves GM Alex Anthopoulos as we approach the trade deadline.

“I think the team has over-performed and played better than expected, but it has been very entertaining. Alex is not going to mortgage the farm to bring someone in someone (via trade), and I don’t think he wants to bring someone in for two or three months and see him walk out the door in the offseason.”

Caray also spoke on Fox Sports Southeast’s plans to cover Chipper Jones’ induction into the Baseball Hall of Fame, as the network plans to provide plenty of content for their viewers. Jones and his wife are due to welcome a new baby at any time, appropriately named, Cooper.
