As the Braves enter a new decade of baseball, they do so winning the NL East Crown the past two seasons.

With the mindset that those NL East Pennants came "ahead of schedule", many are thinking this Braves team can go on a run similar to that of the 90's Braves.

So just how do these Braves compare to the teams of the 90's? Let's examine some of the similarities and differences:

  • Are there players/veterans to help start the run (Ron Gant, Sid Bream)
    • YES—Nick Markakis, Brian McCann, Josh Donaldson, etc.
  • Do they have young players who will be here the majority of the decade (Justice, Klesko)
    • YES—Albies, Acuna, and Dansby
  • Do they have veteran leadership still producing at a high level on the field (Pendleton, Lemke, Olsen)
    • YES—Freeman
  • Do they have the front-line starting (Maddux, Glavine, and Smoltz)
    • NO/Undetermined—Just how good can Soroka & Ian Anderson be? Does Fried/Newk/Wright/Others join them? How can you compare to a legendary trilogy
  • Do they have prospects that can make an impact a few years from now (Chipper, Andruw, others)
    • Yes—Riley, Langeliers, Pache/Waters/Others?
  • Do they have manager you can win with (Bobby Cox)
    • Maybe??—Opinions on Snitker definitely vary
  • Do they have a front office that will be aggressive (Schuerholz)
    • YES—Alex Anthopolous has shown ability in trades and free agency to improve the club
  • Will the owner allow for competitive spending (Ted Turner)
    • Not sure—Will Liberty Media be willing to open up the wallet to win?

John and Hugh compared and contrasted the two era's on Friday's morning show.

What do you think? Are the Braves about to go on a run like the Braves of the 90's did?
