Atlanta Falcons beat writer for the AJC, D. Orlando Ledbetter, joined Dukes & Bell to talk about the free agent moves, Clemson’s pro day and if the Falcons would draft a defensive back in the 2019 NFL Draft.

Ledbetter talked about the Falcons new guards, James Carpenter and Jamon Brown, who signed with the team on Wednesday:

“Definite upgrades, no question about it,” Ledbetter said. “Both guys have combined to play 135 games. They both look more like power blockers than the zone-blocking scheme (blockers) we thought (the Falcons) would look for. I still don’t think it pulls you off a lineman if there is a really, really good one there at 14 (in the draft).”

On what he's seen at Clemson's Pro Day thus far:

“(QB Trevor) Lawrence and (DL) Austin Bryant said they talked to the Falcons,” Ledbetter said. “Christian Wilkins said he has not talked to the Falcons or has anything set up, and (DE Clelin) Ferrell said he hasn’t talked to them yet at all. Certainly the Falcons have a history of taking Clemson guys (but it's) interesting that the Falcons haven’t talked to Wilkins yet.”

Could the Falcons draft yet another defensive back in the first round?

“(CB) Trayvon Mullen who is a Clemson guy...He’s a bigger guy; ran faster than DeAndre Baker and they’ve said they don’t like Baker’s work effort,” Ledbetter said. “They have to get a corner at some point because they just cut their top two corners.”

Ledbetter also gave an update on players that had season ending injuries in 2018:

“Coach Quinn told us at the combine they aren’t expecting anyone back before training camp,” Ledbetter said. “Keanu (Neal) is ahead of the game. They’re being real slow with Ricardo (Allen) so he doesn’t come back and tear the other one. Devonta (Freeman) is running. (Brandon) Fusco isn’t running yet because you have to let the broken ankle heal completely."
