The Atlanta Falcons have beat the deadline of 4 p.m. ET to get Grady Jarrett under a long-term deal so the defensive tackle doesn’t have to play under the franchise tag this season. Dukes & Bell talked about what they think this means for the team moving forward, and what does this mean for other young players?

Carl said the Falcons signing Jarrett is a message by the team.

“This is a deal that keeps Grady locked up in his prime for the next four years here in Atlanta,” Dukes said. “Sometimes these deals get complicated, but they worked to get a deal two hours before the deadline. He is our best interior defensive lineman, they are paying him like that. You’re looking at a top-five defensive lineman in a 4-3 scheme pay wise. This is a message by the Falcons. Not only did they say they were going to do it, but they stood by it and said if you come in and play well, not only will they pay you but pay you well.”

Mike talked about the guaranteed money in the deal.

“The first thing that stood out to me was it’s a four-year deal,” Bell said. “$42.5 million of this is guaranteed according to Ian Rapoport. Debo or Julio should be next to get paid. This contract makes sense. He’s not Aaron Donald, but he’s the next tier, so this deal make sense for everybody.”
