Our baseball insider Grant McAuley joined The Morning Show with John and Hugh Thursday to talk about our red-hot Atlanta Braves.

Atlanta is 18-11 and alone atop the NL East after beating the Mets 7-0 Wednesday night. Based on the last three seasons, the Braves are probably “over the moon” about where they are at after a month of baseball.

Grant talked to new Braves general manager Alex Anthopoulos at the start of the season saying they weren’t going to be able to change the personnel in the blink of an eye.

Concentrating on defense has been a huge deal, and the kind of hitting they’ve had attributes to their success.

“They’re aggressive early in counts," said McAuley. "They’re swinging at quality pitches, and are making quality contact. You put all of those things together; good hitting, good defense, and the pitching staff starting to find more answers than questions in the early going, this is a club that I think is starting to hit its stride.”

With the amount of success the Braves have had up to this point, can we say they is for real? Grant points out that the Braves have only lost one series and that was against the Nationals. The Braves have taken care of business within their division beating up on the Phillies and the Mets.

“It may not be one of those things where you just move into first place, and you set up shop and that’s where you’re going to stay," said McAuley. "You are going to have to fight.”
