While Atlanta United is on an extended break from MLS play, they do participate in the U.S. Open Cup, which their first match being Tuesday on the road against Charleston.

Atlanta United captain Michael Parkhurst joined John Fricke and Hugh Douglas to preview the upcoming one-and-done U.S. Open Cup match. He opens by explaining how seriously United will take the tournament.

"We want to win. This is the quickest route to a trophy. We're not going to play a full lineup, but any lineup we play, we feel is strong enough to win," Parkhurst said. "This tournament is one and done, so there's no room for errors. We want to make a deep run."

Parkhurst adresses the mentality of United going on the road to face a USL side.

"The onus is on us to make sure we're ready for that challenge," said the Five Stripes' captain. "They're not on Atlanta United, because frankly most of them aren't good enough and we need to make sure we go out there and make sure they understand that they're not good enough to play with us, but that's easier said than done."

Parkhurst closes by giving a scouting report on Charleston and the type of game to expect.

"It will be physical," said Parkhurst. "They have some big guys on their team, like to play direct, counter attack, and play for set pieces. Pretty similar for how teams play us at Mercedes Benz."
