Dave Birkett from the Detroit Free Press joined The Midday SHow with Rick Kamla and John Michaels to make the Lions' first-round selection in the 2018 Midday Mock Draft.

Birkett told us he perceives the arrow for the Lions pointing up with the hire of head coach Matt Patricia.

He described the feeling in Detroit after they lost to the Atlanta Falcons and how that took a great deal of momentum out of the team for the season. Birkett talked about the need for tight end and said he expects them to address it at some point.

There is a big need at the running back spot for the Lions, said Birkett. He talked about the Lions really doing their homework on Darius Guice, but he doesn’t expect them to take him with their first pick.

Birkett addressed the need for pass-rushers for the Lions. He told us the Lions might look for a receiver in the fifth round to make sure they have somebody in the pipeline for the future.

Birkett talked about how Matthew Stafford is viewed by the Fans in Detroit and the way he has grown under OC Jim Bob Cooter.

With the 20th pick...
