During the first hour of tonight’s Friyay edition of The Jon Chuckery Show, Jon closed out the hour by talking about the Braves and their projections this season, and how they compare to the rest of the league. Jon got these numbers from the Zips projections from Fan Graphs, and they were actually quite interesting.

Jon started with this number, thirteen, as in the Braves have the thirteenth toughest schedules this season according to Zips. Next, Chuckery laid out the Zips projection on how they would finish in the Division this year. Zips projections had the Braves tied with the defending World Series champion Nationals at the top of the division at 34-26. However even though these projections had the NL East rivals ending the season with the same record Zips gave the slight edge when it comes to making the playoffs, giving the Nationals a 49.9% chance to make the playoffs as opposed to the Braves 48.8%. While these projections still have the Braves set to be a competitor this season, it seems like again the Braves are being bet against to defend their  NL East crown. Last year, most if not all analysts, projections, and odds makers had either the Phillies or Nationals winning the NL East last year going into the season just to have the Braves make a fool out of them.

The team hopes to do the same this year, and not only win their third division title in a row, but also make a deep run in the playoffs and compete for a World Series. Their journey starts July 24th at 4:10pm eastern time against the New York Mets. However, this journey won’t be easy as their opponents average winning percentage this season is .501%, but we know the Braves have beaten the odds before.
