The Carolina Panthers are on the clock, according to an NFL projection model.

Aaron Schatz, editor of the analytics site Football Outsiders, says the Carolina Panthers have the best shot of having the league's worst record in 2020 -- and therefore the first overall draft pick in 2021.

Schatz joined the Mac Attack on WFNZ in Charlotte to discuss the projection.

"Carolina's defense was near the bottom of the league last year, and then they went and lost a lot of talented players. ... And the other thing is they have the hardest projected schedule by our numbers, because their division is so strong, with Tampa Bay getting much stronger this year, and then Atlanta, and New Orleans is our No. 1 team."

That means the Panthers could be in position to draft stud Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence, Schatz said.

"So it's just looking like it's not going to be a very good season, which in a way would be a very good thing because Trevor Lawrence staying in the Carolinas to play with the Panthers would be an awesome story."
