The Georgia High School Association (GHSA) announced in May that the football state championships would move from Mercedes Benz Stadium to Georgia State Stadium. GHSA cited moving out of Mercedes Benz due to the cost of renting the venue for two days.

GHSA said the cost had doubled to host the state championships at Mercedes Benz from the Georgia Dome.

When the state championships were held this past weekend at Georgia State Stadium in poor weather, fans again lost it over GHSA moving venues.
