If I had a million dollars, I would … live in a Stars-Wars-themed bedroom in my parents’ house?

No, that’s not a Barenaked Ladies (or BNL, if you prefer) parody. It’s Joe Burrow’s current reality. The Heisman winner and first overall draft pick of the Cincinnati Bengals, will net $36 million on his rookie contract including a whopping $24-million signing bonus. But you wouldn’t know it by the way he’s been living. Still waiting out the coronavirus in his native Ohio, the quarantined QB has substituted sports cars and bling for Star Wars curtains and mom’s cookies. Those luxuries will surely come later—Burrow has yet to sign his Bengals contract. But until COVID-19 lets up, Burrow’s existence will be a modest one.

“My dad likes to make the joke that I’m a 23-year-old millionaire living in my parents’ basement,” the former LSU star told PFT Commenter and Dan “Big Cat” Katz of Barstool’s Pardon My Take podcast. “It hits close to home.”

Describing his arrangement, it doesn’t sound like Burrow’s bedroom décor has changed much since childhood, though there has been one important development. “The comforter was Star Wars. I think the curtains are still Star Wars,” said the Bengals’ soon-to-be franchise quarterback, who also has a pair of Star Wars posters hanging on his wall. “But the comforter is no longer Star Wars.” The 6’3,” 221-pound Burrow also notes that he upgraded to a king-size bed after his high-school growth spurt.

Think of all the lightsabers and Chewbacca masks Burrow can buy with $36 million. Who knows, maybe he’ll even have some money left over to buy a house.
