DALLAS (105.3 The Fan) - Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy took his turn at the podium in Indianapolis Wednesday to speak to reporters about the team's plans this offseason, and much more.

With his quarterback and the Cowboys in the midst of a contract negotiation that hasn't progressed since September, McCarthy was asked if Dak Prescott is this team's franchise quarterback.

"Definitely. It's exactly where we want to be with Dak. I think what he's done to this point speaks for itself," McCarthy said, via Jon Machota of The Athletic. "Dak is in a business situation right now. I've gone through this with a number of my players in the past and I think it's just time to be patient and let the business people work out the business matter."

He went on to say that "Defense gets teams to the Super Bowl, quarterbacks win Super Bowls," before adding that he believes Prescott can get the job done.

McCarthy was also asked about some of the team's other free agents, including receivers Amari Cooper and former Packer Randall Cobb. He said "the goal" is to have both guys back next season, and was "very impressed" with Cobb's play when he went back and watched the tapes from 2019.

Not much has been reported on Cobb this offseason as the spotlight has mostly been on Prescott, Cooper and Byron Jones' contract situations. Cobb is coming off of a successful season with the Cowboys where he played in 15 games, grabbing 55 balls for 828 yards and three touchdowns.

The 29-year-old signed a one-year, $5 million deal with the Cowboys after spending his entire career under coach McCarthy in Green Bay.
