Curry told Showtime's "All The Smoke" podcast he believed he was bound for New York and Madison Square Garden at the 2009 NBA Draft. The Knicks held the eighth overall pick and needed a handful of other teams to pass on the Davidson standout.

As his name fell, Curry became set on joining the Knicks. That was until the Warriors intervened.

"When I got drafted, I wanted to go to New York," Curry said. "Thought I was going to New York - was in the green room - like, get to the eighth spot New York will get me. Then I got the call from (then-Warriors general manager) Larry Riley like, "Alright, we're going to pick you in the seventh spot."

New York ultimately selected Jordan Hill, who spent one season with the Knicks before he retired in 2017.

While reports surfaced about Curry's willingness, he rarely spoke about his desire to play in New York throughout his 11-year NBA career. His agent, Jeff Austin, however, publically voiced his initial concern.

"The Knicks had eight and we thought in New York he'd be a great fit. We really wanted him to drop to eight," Austin told Yahoo Sports' Marc Spears in 2015. "Once we got to seventh, we were like, 'C'mon man, don't pick him with (Golden State).' At the time, the Warriors were not in our mind as a preferred destination."

During the draft, the Warriors nearly dealt the seventh-overall pick to the Phoenix Suns in a package deal for Amar'e Stoudemire.

Curry has missed a bulk of this season as he recovers from a broken hand. The Warriors have struggled in his absence, having lost 36 of their 46 games. The Knicks are in 14th place in the Eastern Conference.
