The Atlanta Falcons choose not to pick up Takk McKinley's fifth-year option Wednesday. This doesn't mean his time with the Falcons is up, but it does turn this season into a prove-it year.

Some feel the factors leading to the Falcons' decision was performance based, while others feel it was health based. Some even mention being burnt by Vic Beasley in a similar situation as a reason the Falcons didn't pick up this option.

John Fricke and Hugh Douglas discuss what Takk needs to do now to gain another deal from the team.

"You're looking at two points here when you don't pick up the fifth-year option," says John Fricke. "The first is he is in a prove it year and the second is will he be healthy enough for them to justify paying him a big contract at the end of next season."

Hugh Douglas agrees and thinks if Takk can stay on the field he'll be in good shape to get another deal.

"If he stays healthy he's in a good spot," said the former pass-rusher. "He plays hard, just hasn't shown up for him in the stat sheet."
